# Billing

The **Billing API** lets you retrieve your workspace's current billing period and credit balance.

[Credits](https://help.synthesia.io/en/articles/11825466-what-are-credits-and-how-do-they-work-for-enterprise-customers-in-synthesia) are the shared unit Synthesia uses to measure usage across the API and in-app features. Use the Billing API to check your workspace's credit balance programmatically instead of checking the billing page in the app.

Use the Billing API to:

* **Check your credit balance**: Retrieve the total, consumed, and available credits for your workspace's current billing period.
